Additional information

This paper presents the real-time implementation of a novel algorithm for direct power control of a promising doubly-fed machine technology for variable speed wind turbines and pump drives. The controller is entirely parameter independent and allows the doubly-fed machine operation without a shaft position sensor which offers high reliability and low maintenance. The results presented in the paper are the outcomes of the EPSRC project (Ref. EP/F06148X/1), of which Jovanovic was the principal investigator, in collaboration with Newcastle University (UK), Scottish and Southern Energy Plc (UK), and Shenyang University of Technology (China).
