Additional information

This work was the first to accurately determine the band gap of the novel thin film photovoltaic absorber material Cu2ZnSnSe4. This is essential for this material to be used as a sustainable alternative to other thin film photovoltaic cells. Beattie contributed to the spectroscopy measurement in collaboration with Strathclyde University. The paper was an outcome from EPSRC SUPERGEN PV21 (EP/F029624/1) programme, a collaboration between 4 institutions in 3 countries (UK, Estonia, Belarus). The paper led to an invited talk (UK-India Excitonic Solar Cell Symposium, Heriot-Watt University) and a Royal Society Research Grant (RG120090) for Beattie to chemically synthesise CZTS nanostructures.
