One of the fundamental problems in control theory is to design nonlinear observers for multi-output systems with linear error dynamics. For the first time, we present necessary and sufficient conditions that permit transformation from a multi-output system into a normal observable canonical form. This work is done in collaboration with University of Lyon and ENSI Bourges, France. It has led to successful prestigious Bourges Regional Grant, France to continue research on this topic. It also led to an invited paper at the main control conference in France, CIFA 2010.
