Additional information

Postlethwaite has pioneered the development of a new framework for compensating controllers when actuators saturate. This paper builds on this framework bringing together a number of concepts and results to give a discrete time solution that can then be applied to a real state of the art hard disk drive system, in which saturation can severely limit performance. The associated project was an international collaboration with A*STAR Data Storage Institute, Singapore. The paper was nominated for the IEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology best paper prize. The research was funded by Postlethwaite’s second EPSRC Platform grant (EP/D029937/1, £435K).
