Additional information

This work was supported by EPSRC grant (EP/C015185/1), in which a novel observer was proposed for fault detection of aero engines. The basic idea is robust state estimation, which can be applied to many dynamic systems including engines and communication systems. This idea was further developed for tracking multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channels in high speed trains resulting in Dai being awarded an EPSRC (UK-China Science Bridge) Visiting Research Fellowship (from EP/G042713/1, involving 10 UK Universities, 6 Chinese Universities and 17 international companies, 2009-2012), at the Chinese Academy of Sciences to research on “LTE Fast-fading Channel Estimation in High Mobility Environment”.
