Additional information

The design approach demonstrated here for enhancing the hotspot strength in metallic nanoparticle chain has been applied, by researchers in Europe and Asia, to a wide range of complex nanostructures such as nano-pillars and nano-plates (Margueritat, France, ACS Nano, 2011, 5 (3), 1630–1638; Kim, Korea, Phys. Chem. Chem. Phys. , 2010, 12, 3747-3752; Farcu, J. Phys. Chem. C, 2010, 114 (27), pp 11717–11722 ). Wang’s expertise in this technology was recognised by the US National Science Foundation who invited him to review a research proposal (No. 1104060, 2010) on hotspot engineering.
