This real-time platform has been further developed to provide adaptive OOFDM [Photonics Journal, 3 (3), 500-511, 2011], automatic synchronisation [Photonics Journal, 3, no. 2, pp.187-196, 2011], multi-point to point OOFDM transmission [Opt. Express, 19 (21), 20557-20570, 2011], dual-band transmission [Opt. Express, 20 (21), 20666-20679, 2012] and provides the basis for developing intelligent transceivers. OOFDM (DMT) is currently being considered for the 400GbE standard (http://www.ieee802.org/3/bm/public/jul13/tanaka_01_0713_optx.pdf). By implementing a proof-of-principle lab-based prototype transceiver this work was strategic in obtaining £654k (€3.07M total funding) EU-FP7-PIANO+ OCEAN project led by Bangor.
