Additional information

This work builds on working with CBT material and the integration of various materials (metallics/hybrid) into advanced 3D-woven structures (including sensing configurations – Rolls-Royce CAST-award). It has led to a new composites recycling project (POC-313).The design utilizes a variety of novel manufacture, testing and analysis techniques. The ability to design/produce complex 3D structures with integrated thermoplastic material is of great interest to the aero and transportation sectors, particularly high deposition rates of composites. This work led to the commissioning a specialized loom within NIACE (advanced forming competence-centre project). ECRE are also developing ballistic, thermoplastic textile structures in collaboration with DSTL.
