Additional information

As a complement to collaborative research on the solar disinfection of water through EU FP6 project, SODISWATER (no. 031650) and EU FP7 AQUAPULSE (no. 286641), we report the development of a very low cost “plastic bag” point-of-use water treatment reactor suitable for use in developing countries where almost 1 billion people live without access to clean water. It resulted in the award of the Engineering Without Borders: Tattarillo International Thesis Award 2011, established collaboration with the University of Salerno, subsequent joint publications, and an invited lecture at EAAOP3, Almeria 2013 (www.eaaop3.com).
