Additional information

Piezoelectricity is enhanced on the nanoscale due to the strain confinement effect, and there have been several studies of the enhanced piezoelectric properties obtained with nanowires and similar features. However, there are only a limited number of piezo-materials that can be fabricated into nanowires in a controlled way. In this work, a new template-assisted piezoelectric nanoporous structure was introduced for the first time. This allows a broad range of piezo-materials to be used for nanostructure-based piezoelectric energy generation. A patent has been applied for (US20120049696A1).
