Spatio-temporal (2D+T) non-rigid registration of real-time 3D echocardiography and cardiovascular MR image sequences.
Motivated by the clinical need to fuse different cardiac imaging modalities, this article describes a novel approach to non-rigidly align 3D echocardiography and cardiovascular MR image sequences. It is significant in providing methodology to superimpose a low contrast but high temporal resolution ultrasound scan on a high anatomical definition cardiac MR scan, allowing comparison of complementary information of each. An early version of the work was presented as an oral presentation at the International Conference on Image Processing in Medical Imaging (IPMI) 2007 (14% oral acceptance rate). This journal article describes the fully developed methodology and its complete clinical evaluation.
