Previous attempts to predict the constrained sintering of thin ceramic coatings from simple unconstrained sintering experiments have been unsuccessful. This is the first model that provides a good correlation with a range of material data. Data used to evaluate the model was provided through an international collaboration with the group of Guillon in Germany.
