Reducing False Alarm Rates for Critical Arrhythmias using the Arterial Blood Pressure Waveform
This research represents one of the few attempts in the last 20 years to reduce the number of false alarms in intensive care units. Its publication sparked renewed interest in this field, as evidenced by the hundreds of recent downloads of the annotated data set used in this study (of over 10,000 life-threatening alarms and associated high resolution data) from Physionet.org (the most commonly used repository for algorithm evaluation in this field). A funded collaboration with Mindray North America (Mahwah, NJ) resulted in licensing of intellectual property (US Patent App 61/532,502) for use in their products.
