Additional information

This paper is based on a collaborative study with Element Six, a multinational company who are world-leaders in synthetic diamond production. Using the latest advancements in diamond growth, the author used for the first time high-quality Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) diamond grown on CVD substrates to manufacture and test a new generation of deep ultra-violet (UV) light photodetectors. These devices constitute a significant improvement compared to similar present-day technologies, and therefore can contribute to the assembly of more sophisticated electronic systems. Research on this sector is ongoing at the Diamond Electronics Laboratory, having attracted significant interest from further industrial companies.
