Wireless video communications and HD video broadcasting have been the subject of increasing attention in recent years. There is a huge demand for portable and high quality video devices. The H.264 advanced video coding (AVC) is the latest Standard developed jointly by the ISO/IEC and the ITU-T groups. The mode decision algorithms have been an extensive research subject due to its complexity. This paper offers a novel fast mode decision algorithm for H.264/AVC. The work has attracted attention of world leading communication companies such as Motorola during the presentation. This work is a significant improvement in advanced compression techniques.
