Additional information

• Develops a modified strip-yield model simulating near-tip crack profiles and stress distributions under different fatigue loading conditions, essential to the scientific understanding of the process of fatigue damage.

• Strong correlation between crack closure and near tip crack opening profiles/stress distributions. Results used in rationalising fatigue phenomena including the delayed post-overload fatigue crack growth and the short crack growth behaviour.

• Supported by de Havilland Memorial Fund and Airbus UK and is of direct interest to the transport industry in developing efficient and reliable fatigue life prediction algorithms. This has contributed to the design tools available to Airbus.
