Additional information
The paper presents the first real-time measurements of oil in water (OiW) at ppm levels in a harsh environment. The work was conducted at the North Sea oil terminal at Flotta (Orkney). The instrument is based on research undertaken at Liverpool University over the previous 15 years, and developed through funding obtained from a consortium of 5 major companies (BP, British Gas, Chevron, Conoco-Philips and ENI). Commercialisation has led to a novel OiW analyser providing an in-field measurement capability: http://www.advancedsensors.co.uk/products/side-stream-slip-stream/tm-1000
