Research content/process:
The output is a solo exhibition of new works in the form of large-scale photographic prints, digital video projections, sculpture, large scale digital photographic panels and wall mounted digital wallpapers. D’Souza was commissioned on the basis of his previous work as an artist/designer whose activities encompassed the overlapping areas of art/design practice within the social/political dimensions of globalisation and the Indian diaspora. D’Souza’s unique position was the basis upon which to consider the connection between Weiden + Kennedy (the ‘global’ Advertising Agency) and W+K Exp, the ‘local’ Gallery in India. The project considers the politics of space by utilising public, commercial and Gallery space as part of a discourse on parallel socio-economic and cultural changes reflected in the changing status of a ‘globalised’ India. Central to the work is the recognition of the connection between commerce and culture in a globalised world – articulated in a site specific artwork in Delhi. The work is represented by a portfolio in CD form of the contents of the exhibition. The exhibition generates findings partly through its combination of texts and images - these, together, act to spur a critical consideration of the plight of modernity in India.
