Performances: Gaining an overall second place in the Elite Division in the 2011 SIDDIS Brass Festival (Norway), the suite was subsequently performed by Grimethorpe Brass Band, directed by Allan Withington and suite gained first place in the Brass in Concert Championships 2011 at The Sage, Gateshead. In each case the suite received the highest awards for the quality and originality of the musical programme.

‘Carnival’ is a further example of an ongoing artistic collaboration between the composer Robin Dewhurst and the conductor Allan Withington, and arises from a commission by Stavanger Brass band for its SIDDIS Brass performance in 2011. The suite examines the borders between original composition and arrangement and revisits approaches found in the works of jazz composers such as Gil Evans, Don Ellis and George Russell.
