Additional information

Weld residual stresses can have important detrimental effects on long term structural performance of welds in a number of industries. Their significance is often assessed using simple conservative estimates that can lead to unnecessary repair or replacement of components. This research contributed to an international benchmarking programme aimed at improving the accuracy of both residual stress measurements and predictions, and demonstrates the state of the art in residual stress prediction in austenitic steel welds
