Additional information

In this paper, Clayton brings together his on-going research into Hans Joachim Burgert. Clayton is particularly concerned with examining the importance of Burgert in relation to Calligraphic theory. Burgert was recognised internationally, however his specific writings on calligraphic theory have been less acknowledged, and this paper brings this important work to the fore. ‘The Burgert Handpresse’ was published in BIBLIOLOGIA An International Journal of Bibliography, Library Science, History of Typography and the Book. The article will appear in an Italian translation as a reprint for ACI (the Italian Calligraphy Association) Milan in 2014.
