A Literary History of the Low Countries
Hermans edited the volume, which was based on a manuscript originally written in Dutch by nine authors for translation into French. Editing involved improving overall quality and re-orienting the texts to cater for an Anglophone audience, commissioning one entirely new chapter (chapter 4, pp. 293-366), overseeing the translation into English by five different translators, writing a short preface (pp. vii-ix), compiling a select secondary bibliography of primarily Anglophone studies on Dutch literature (pp. 657-665) and a bibliography of book-length translations of Dutch literary works into English (pp. 667-705), and overseeing the insertion of six historical maps to accompany individual chapters.
