Additional information

The proposed “intelligent” clinical decision support system (CDSS) in this paper continuously monitors and analyses patients’ vital signs using the LiDCOplus Cardiovascular Monitor (http://www.lidco.com/) and recommends appropriate drug infusion rates for precise cardiovascular control. Patient trials at the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield (United Kingdom) were rated excellent by senior anaesthetists. Upgrades currently under development will enhance functionality and performance with intelligent learning capability providing an automatic update of reasoning rules when CDSS recommendations are overridden. The project was awarded Top Prize in the Software and ICT Category at Medipex NHS Innovation Awards Ceremony 2010(http://www.medipex.co.uk/content.aspx?Page=Software%201%202010).
