Additional information

The EIT technology described here is now embedded into a commercial system: the Sheffield Mk 3.5 absolute EIT system (http://www.maltronint.com/eit/msmk35.php) providing continuous ventilation monitoring in or close to real-time on a medium and long-term basis. Our work contributed to the systemic improvements via clinical studies. Following these successful amendments, clinical trials were performed to validate the performance of the Mk3.5 aEIT (Prof Mahdi Mahfouf (m.mahfouf@shef.ac.uk ); Dr Gary H. Mills (gary.mills@sth.nhs.uk)). This research also contributed to the development of an EIT-based advisory system to minimize the adverse effects of mechanical ventilation in critically-ill patients (Prof Mahdi Mahfouf (m.mahfouf@shef.ac.uk)).
