Additional information

This work arose from a collaborative research programme (DTI Project No: TP-CHBT-006-00015) between ourselves, Queen Mary University of London (Prof Asim Ray, a.k.ray@brunel.ac.uk), University of Greenwich and latterly Brunel University (Prof Rob Withnall - Deceased), and LG-Philips (latterly LP Displays, no longer trading), although the paper relates specifically to the work of our team. The key technology advancement was in facilitating the combination of aqueous processing with surfactant templating to engineer thermally and structurally stable mesoporous structures in tungsten oxide and it is for these aspects of the work rather than the XRD study that it has been selected here.
