Additional information

This work was an output from a DTI funded project (20305189 - Design And Development Of New Generation Sub Miniature Fluorescence Lamps) . The output was selected as an example of our focus on integration of materials science into cost effective industrial technology. The project demonstrated a four-fold improvement in output over CCFL designs and has potential wider significance to the microwave communications sector where it offers the prospect of higher power, longer life and reduced costs by allowing the replacement of thermionic cathodes with field emission based devices.
