ARMA modelled time-series classification for structural health monitoring of civil infrastructure
Concerns automated identification of structural performance ‘events’ giving early warning of failure using a kind of filter which is rare (even unique) in working not only for dynamic vibrations but also for static responses. An automated system was implemented on the Malaysia–Singapore Second Link Bridge, and detected post tensioning and other bridge construction events, i.e. mirrors of possible failure modes (such as tendon snapping observed at Hammersmith Flyover). The technique has been built on by US researchers including Prof Catbas (catbas@ucf.edu ), lead editor of the 2013 (ASCE) guidance on ‘Structural Identification of Constructed Facilities’.
