Significance of output:

This work presents scale experimental data covering a wide range of variables that prove that unlike wind turbines the wake is not axis-symmetric meaning that existing modelling approaches cannot be applied. Tidal energy has the potential to generate 10% of UK electricity and in excess of 60GW worldwide. Results have been used to develop and validate a new industry-standard numerical tool that will quantify individual device performance and that of an array or farm (R.Rawlinson-smith@garradhassan.com).
