Significance of output:

Spherical arrays of transducers are a new and attractive novel technology, especially in image processing and acoustics. However their applicability is limited by the so-called spatial aliasing problem, which is caused by the finite number of transducers used and limits the frequency range of the measurable signal. The new signal processing strategy proposed here allows for a dramatic increase of the spatial aliasing frequency, thus making spherical arrays suitable for a whole new range of engineering applications (some examples are presented in the paper). The work was carried out in collaboration with researchers from Ben-Gurion University (Israel).
