Additional information

<19> Based upon PhD work by first author, this paper details the possibility of creating high level attack signatures and proposes a foot-print mark-up language to aid in the identification of an attack against a network system. This line of research has been exploited by QinetiQ for their managed intrusion detection service/capability and has been a major factor in the development and exploitation of projects for DSTL/MOD via the Centre for Defence Enterprise route. The analysis and presentation of data from Intrusion Detection Systems continues to be a major strand of work for the research group.
