<19> Earlier versions presented at European Conference on Information Warfare and Security 2010 and Red Stone Arsenal DoD Conference 2008. Highlights risk of malicious modification of disk firmware. Findings have been incorporated into a training course for law enforcement. The project resulted in the modification of supply chain management and assurance by US DOD and UK DOD. As a result of this work in collaboration with HMG Cert, the authors successfully identified a piece of state sponsored malicious software operating at the firmware level. PhD work continues this line of research with the aim of devising a formal forensic method.
