Additional information

This paper introduces new concepts for the analysis of high-cycle fatigue damage in aerospace-grade composite structures. It enables an accurate, fully-automatic procedure suitable for complex 3D models that accounts for an unlimited number of cracks and requires no user intervention, which is a major step forward. This research was supported by Rolls Royce Plc. who applied the techniques successfully in the analysis of novel composite fan blades (Mr Adam Bishop, Rolls Royce Plc, adam.bishop@rolls-royce.com). It was followed by two PhD projects (Bristol and Cardiff Universities) and a new research project with Airbus UK (Dr Christophe Paget, Airbus Operations Ltd, Christophe.Paget@Airbus.com).
