Significance of output:

Reports the generation of narrow linewidth (<2GHz) THz waves by nonlinearly mixing the outputs of two nanosecond pulsed fibre MOPA systems in a Gallium Phosphide crystal. Narrow linewidth THz waves are important for high resolution spectroscopic measurements which cannot be addressed by the well-known time domain spectroscopic measurements. The work has helped in securing a one year grant ($100K) under Samsung’s ‘2012 GRO Project’ primarily focused on understanding the ‘Electromagnetic Modulation of Protein Dynamics & Function’ which promises a new era in medical imaging and therapeutics based on electromagnetically induced conformational changes in protein structure.
