The Militarisation of Peacekeeping in the 21st Century

The research for the book, The Militarisation of Peacekeeping in the Twenty-First Century, began in 2001 and was not completed until mid-2011. In order to analyse the sea-change in UN peacekeeping that has occurred since late 1999, the author set himself the ambitious task of placing that practice and the doctrine associated with it in the context of the UN’s previous peacekeeping practice and doctrine, occurring during a 50-year period. In order to do this, the book engaged in a thorough analysis of virtually all of UN peacekeeping operations since the UN began—over sixty operations in total.
