Les Enseignants et le Genre: Les Inégalités Hommes-Femmes dans L’enseignement du Second
Degré en France et en Angleterre
Drawing on feminist theories of work and education and a cross-national comparative perspective (Crompton 1999), this book explores gender inequalities in the teaching profession in England and France. It draws on 60 semi-structured interviews as well as on a range of secondary sources. Within each country, the narratives of men and women teachers were paralleled to identify gendered patterns, whether in relation to their career or domestic arrangements. A multi-level approach was favoured, which looked at the influence of national cultures and policies, teaching cultures and teachers’ working conditions, and individual biographies on gender equality.
