Double-weighted statement

The Economics of the Roman Stone Trade provides a new and wide-ranging examination of the production, distribution and use of carved stone objects in the Roman world. Focusing in turn on the market for stone, quarrying, transport, the distribution of stone, and the production of architectural elements, sarcophagi and statues, it comprises a new synthesis of a phenomenon that has been repeatedly overlooked in studies of the ancient economy. This required over four years of research and travel, autopsy of a vast body of evidence, as well as the detailed study of many published sources.
