Soft-Computing Modelling of Seismicity in the Southern Hellenic Arc
This work was partially supported by SE RISK, EU Community Initiative Programme ARCHIMED, INTERREG IIIB. It combines the technologies of neural networks and fuzzy logic, leading to a neuro-fuzzy system trained to recognise electric earthquake precursors. The performance of the model was tested using experimental data obtained from the area of the southern Hellenic arc, one of the most seismically active regions in the world and demonstrated a reliable prediction rate. The potential benefits of reliable prediction of earthquakes to the local area are enormous, and the concepts developed can be extended to other geographical areas.
