Additional information

This paper presents a new concept to define the operating limits of the UPFC and proposes the use of artificial intelligence to control the UPFC to keep within these limits whilst satisfying the requirements of the power system. This concept has applications in transmission systems and is aimed to improve their dynamic performance, reliability and avoid blackouts. It proposes approach to implement on-line intelligent controller normally requires excessive calculation time, in application needs actions in few cycles. The experiment reported in this paper is the first successful application of the ANFIC controller for the power system in the real time.
