Double-weighted statement

This book is a thoroughgoing reconstruction of the field of postcolonial studies. Reviewers have described it as ‘paradigm-shifting’, ‘a map for the future of postcolonial studies’, and ‘simply agenda-defining’. The study's archive is exceptionally broad: ‘an immense inventory of literary examples’; ‘probably no one has read as widely or deeply the poetry and fiction of authors from Mozambique, Pakistan, El Salvador, China, Ghana, Indonesia and elsewhere’. It is on the basis of this extensive archive – ‘vast (and surely unmatched)’ – that the book puts forward its theoretical and methodological proposals for a new mode of postcolonial literary scholarship.
