Additional information

Paper presents novel concept of storing and generating energy that is intended for use in hazardous environments such as nuclear-waste repositories. Energy can be used to power remote wireless sensor nodes for health monitoring of plant. Paper was output of EPSRC project "Keeping the Nuclear Option Open" (EP/C549465/1, £6.1M, 2005-10). Work attracted media attention and featured in 2011 New Scientist article "Magnetic 'battery' to report on century-old nuke waste" [tinyurl.com/gen-eng-60].
