Additional information

To determine mechanical response of metals under severe loading it is essential to undertake laboratory experiments that represent geometry and loading of practical components. However, different sample shapes give different results. Paper provides model that permits results from one test shape to be transferred to another. Model is validated using experimental data generated in laboratories at Bristol. Work led to successful European grant application "Style" (€200k, 2010-3), EDF Energy i-CASE award (£100K, 2012-5) [contact: Engineer, Assessment Technology Group] and successful EPSRC award "UK-India Structural Integrity" (EP/K007815/1, £100K, 2012-4, EP/K007866, £340k, 2012-6).
