Additional information

This work is the result of collaboration between SHU and University of Ioannina and describes a range of heat treatments for SiC reinforced aluminium alloy which are applied to a metal matrix composite system. The innovative heat treatment, with prolonged dwell period, facilitated second phase precipitate formation resulting in modified strength and elongation behaviour. The proposed heat treatment cycle allows the effect of segregation/precipitate on metal matrix composite material to be studied, with positive implications in a number of relevant fields including defence and aeronautics.
