Additional information

<20>To date computer interfaces that combine motion control and visual output have assumed a body-schema based on the human form. We ask a fundamental question: can users control an extra limb and how can they use this in a task? We demonstrate that users can both operate a virtual tail and that they show a sense of ownership over it. The study poses new challenges for HCI about how we use our bodies in user interfaces. Discussed in a special section on virtual reality in New Scientist, 22/6/2013, with video and expanded text online.
