Additional information

<23> This paper is among the top 10 most cited papers during the past 5 years in the top journal in the field. It is

the first to demonstrate the proof-of-principle of low-cost, 3D-ultrasound-based registration of automatically-generated 3D statistical shape models of bone (including a surgical plan) to the patient during hip replacement surgery. The validation experiments on human cadavers reported remain the most extensive and clinically realistic in the literature. Depuy iorthopaedics Ltd, who sponsored the research and own exploitation rights to a patent filing, is currently considering integrating this technology within its computer-aided orthopaedic surgery systems.
