Additional information

Metamaterial systems can be used for wireless data and power transfer (‘A metaboard’). Conventional magnetic coupled structures suffer a significant limitation to their maximum possible bandwidth due to the geometric constraints on magnetic inductance. Adding capacitive coupling and multiple cell structures is shown here to offer considerable flexibility in the design of a data channel to meet high performance requirirements. This work has developed into a patent application (European Patent Application No 10793027.3) and further work resulting in metaboards with ultra-wideband signal propagation channels.
