Additional information

_The Look of the Thing_ is an extended (30-40 minute) interdisciplinary, site-responsive, promenade performance piece devised and directed by Hannah Bruce. It is driven by a continuous original soundtrack composed and designed by Jonathan Eato, and includes live dance and light installation.

Four research and development showings were undertaken to test the technology and inform processes for artistic guiding. The piece has received seventeen public performances in four distinct versions (created to respond to the four different performance environments):

Hackney, London, 24-5 February 2012, four performances

Shoreditch Town Hall, London, 12 October 2012, two performances

Wilton’s Music Hall, London, 15-17 October 2012, nine performances

Northern Stage, Newcastle, 1 February 2013, two performances

_The Look of the Thing_ soundtrack is also extracted in _The Price of Admission_ (Hannah Bruce): Jabbawocky Market, Darlington, 3 and 5 October 2013, two performances.

_The Look of the Thing_ was funded by the Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust, and Arts Council England. It was selected for The Barbican, Create, and Shoreditch Town Hall’s mini-festival in October 2012, was runner up in Northern Stage’s New Theatre awards (2012), and was awarded a Northern Stage 'Time In Two' creative residency in 2012.

Jonathan Eato designed the TlotT App for iPhone / iPod to facilitate delivery of audio in this and other promenade performance pieces (Peter Worth developed the App software). TlotT downloads via Apple's App Store and acts as the distribution and coordination medium for the mp3 soundtracks submitted. Screenshots from the App, TlotT’s Apple Store page, and the TlotT homepage are also included.

All audio is mastered exclusively for headphone listening. To experience one of the soundtracks via TlotT:

1) Download the TlotT App from Apple’s App store onto any iPhone or iPod Touch.
