Additional information

A new FDTD approach to numerically model diffusive boundaries is presented, which overcomes some of the problems observed in previous methods, such as geometrical approaches and Digital Waveguide Mesh techniques. Besides the improved predictive capability, the model offers a simple but powerful parameterisation of diffusive surfaces. These features have significantly increased the applicability of FDTD methods to practical problems, which was recently highlighted in the review paper “Fifty Years of Artificial Reverberation” by Välimäki et al. in the IEEE Transactions on Audio, Speech, and Language Processing (2012). The research resulted from EPSRC-funded collaboration with the University of York (EP/F013078/1).
