Additional information

This article is based on a research study originally commissioned by national/regional cultural agencies and ministries (DCMS, Arts Council England, English Heritage, Museums Libraries & Archives) and funded by HM Treasury (2006-9) 'Creating Cultural Opportunities for Sustainable Communities'. The research involves comprehensive GIS-based spatial data analysis and consultative planning model and case studies. A National Cultural Planning Toolkit arose from the project, which was the basis for web-based guidance 'Living Places' (www.living-places.org.uk). A follow-up study was undertaken for DCMS, creating a Cultural Asset Mapping Toolkit under the Culture Evidence (CASE) programme with several area based case studies www.culture.gov.uk/what_we_do/research_and_statistics/7290.aspx#Culture . The research theme was also further advanced in a chapter in The Ashgate Research Companion to Planning & Culture (Young & Stevenson, eds 2013, pp.223-238).
