‘I Think I Now Know’ explores cultural and methodological issues of practice-based research. The text was researched, prepared and written at the invitation of Annette Arlander, Professor of Performance Art and Theory, Theatre Academy of Helsinki, as Keynote Address for ‘Artistic Research in Action:‘ CARPA 2 - Colloquium on Artistic Research in Performing Arts’. Aspects of the research were tested through an earlier lecture at 7a*11d International Festival of Performance Art, Toronto, Canada (October 2010) and then subsequently re-considered at Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, China (December 2011). This publication offers an analysis of issues of artistic practice instrumentalised or recognized as ‘research’ institutionally and politically through a first-hand account of an artist upon their own work.
