Additional information

This article was one of nine papers (out of 50+) selected for final publication in this special edition on Inclusive Design. It draws on several research projects by the author under EPSRC Sustainable Urban Environment and EU FP7 and INTERREG programmes (2003-13) addressing inclusive and sustainable design theory, principles and practice. The article challenges the validity of design guidance and models developed under the evidence-based and technological approach to product and urban design in the context of the twin meta-themes of ageing/demographic and climate change. The article introduces the novel perspective of Society-Technology Studies (STS) to this debate and theme, drawing on Latour, Shove and Waelbers.
